Many people think this term only applies to singers, performers, broadcasters, but it also extends to call centre workers, receptionists, teachers, YouTubers, executives and many more.
But if your job would be significantly harder or impossible to do if you lost your voice, then you are considered a professional voice user.
If your livelihood requires the use of your voice, no matter your occupation, it can be beneficial to invest in preventative voice care. Don't wait until things go wrong to seek help.

Get Results Faster!
Your voice is a powerful instrument!
So, how does this instrument work? For starters, let's talk anatomy.
Inside your throat are two bands of tissue, called the vocal folds. Voice is produced by vibration of the vocal folds as air passes through them from the lungs. The vocal folds, together with the muscles and cartilages that support them, are known as the larynx, your voice box.
The balance between breathing and how the voice is being used is critical for a healthy, sustainable and clear voice.
When you work with me you will
👉️ 1. learn and understand exactly how the voice is connected with your mind and body and we'll get to the root cause of your voice problem.
👉️ 2. I'll guide you every step of the way so you have a clear understanding why you're doing what you're learning in my program to get you results quickly!

THE VOICE and TONGUE-TIE
I'm excited to reveal my contribution to this article (in collaboration with @breathe_institute) and the significant discovery linking voice problems and vocal muscle tension to an underlying and often unnoticed condition called tongue-tie (ankyloglossia).
My clients have successful outcomes, because we look at the whole picture and get to the root cause of their voice problem.
A tongue-tie can be easily overlooked, especially when the focus is on voice. It doesn't mean that everyone who has trouble with their voice has a tongue-tie. No! It is critical however, to look at the whole picture and to be able to rule out any factors that can impact your voice, such as a potential tongue-tie.
Detecting any underlying issue early on is essential for achieving successful outcomes and fast results.
By taking a holistic approach to address the root cause of the problem, my clients get quick results and they feel empowered to overcome their voice issues and reclaim their confidence.

Scrubs anyone?
Yes, this is me in scrubs! I was given the incredible opportunity to observe a jaw surgery of one of my clients. It was such a fascinating and educational experience.
A little background about this case.
This woman is a professional opera singer who had an open bite. The misalignment of her jaw resulted in jaw tension and discomfort, breathing difficulties, chewing and swallowing problems and voice problems to the point that she fatigued quickly when singing and she couldn't rely on her high notes anymore.
She decided to have corrective jaw surgery to get better structural alignment.
We started working together a few weeks prior to her surgery to change some functional habits, address muscle tension in her jaw and throat with manual and myofunctional therapy as well as vocal rehabilitation exercises. Within four weeks she had noticed significant improvement and was almost symptom free. The next step for her was to do the surgery. Stay tuned. We'll continue her vocal wellness journey in about four weeks for post-op care and to get her voice to her fullest potential. 🤩💬🎵
A multidisciplinary approach and collaboration with other health care professionals is critical for excellent treatment outcome. We all can learn from each other and share our expertise. The more we share and collaborate, the better connections and relationships we develop and the better we can serve the people that we treat.
I love what I do and learning makes me a better person and gives me greater knowledge to help my clients at the highest level possible. 💕
I'm so grateful to my clients and the providers I work with.🙏

Resting your voice is good for you, but...
if you keep having trouble with your voice, just resting it is not going to do the trick. Besides, you can't just be quiet all the time.
It is NOT normal that a voice fatigues. Yes. that's right! No matter how much you talk or sing, your voice should not feel tired.
The question is, why does your voice get tired in the first place?
The way you use your voice has a lot to do with how your voice feels. Most likely it's bad habits that developed over time and now your voice can't keep up with it anymore.
Or maybe there are irritants (allergies, phlegm, etc) that trigger problems with your voice.
If it's not working what you've been doing then it's time to fix it.
Get your voice back on track and let your vocal wellness begin today.

VOICE vs SPEECH
Speech & Voice Works is the name of my private practice. People often ask me: "What's the difference between speech and voice?"
VOICE - Relates to resonance, quality of sound. For example, if there is a voice problem like hoarseness or strain, this will affect the sound of your voice.
SPEECH - Relates to articulation, clarity of speech. For example if there are speech errors, e.g. saying "wabbit" for rabbit, or "houth" for house, this affects intelligibility of speech.
Speech and voice problems can both exist at the same time and can affect clarity of speech as well as sound quality.
The good news is that voice and speech can be improved and often completely remediated with speech and/or voice therapy.
